Shay Ghassemian is a User Experience Researcher and Designer on the Digital Health team at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. SCCA is a cancer treatment hospital based in Seattle and is ranked 5th in the nation for Adult Cancer Care. It brings together the leading research teams and cancer specialists from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Children’s and UW Medicine, with a shared focus on translating scientific discovery into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure of cancer.
After working as an industrial designer in Iran for a couple of years, she moved to the US to shift to a broader discipline in design; Master of Design program at University of Washington with a focus on Interaction Design. In her current role at SCCA, Shay leads the design research of solutions for cancer patients, with expertise in ethnographic research, usability studies and participatory design. The most recent design work involved the launch of new features in an app for cancer patients called Caresi™.
Shay’s design practice focuses on understanding human relations, interactions and perceptions, and their impact on social and political issues. In most of her projects, she tries to exercise the power of structuring the society on a voluntary, cooperative basis. Not only persuading people to interact with products and their environment in groups, but also facilitating the concept of collaboration in solving problems.
